Verse 1
अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् ।
होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥

Agnim īḷe purohitaṃ yajñasya devam ṛtvijam, hotāraṃ ratnadhātamam.
Meaning: "I praise Agni, the priest of the sacrifice, the divine minister of the rite, the Hotar (invoker), who bestows treasures."
Agni is invoked as the sacred fire — the priest and messenger who carries offerings to the gods and grants wealth and blessings.
Verse 2
अग्निः पूर्वेभिर् ऋषिभिर् ईड्यो नूतनैरुत ।
स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥
स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥
Agniḥ pūrvebhir ṛṣibhir īḍyo nūtanair uta, sa devān eha vakṣati.
Meaning: "Agni, worshipped by the ancient seers and also by the new, may he bring the gods here to the sacrifice."
This verse highlights continuity of reverence—Agni is adored by sages of old and by present worshippers, and is asked to bring the gods to receive the offerings.
Verse 3
अग्निना रयिमश्नवत् पोषमेव दिवे-दिवे ।
यशसं वीरवत्तमम् ॥
यशसं वीरवत्तमम् ॥
Agninā rayim aśnavat poṣameva dive-dive, yaśasaṃ vīravattamam.
Meaning: "Through Agni, one may obtain wealth and nourishment day by day, that which is full of glory and abounding in heroic sons."
Agni is praised as the giver of prosperity, sustenance, fame, and strength—benefits renewed each day through the sacred fire.
Verse 4
अग्ने यं यज्ञमध्वरं विश्वतः परिभूरसि ।
स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥
स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥
Agne yaṃ yajñam adhvaraṃ viśvataḥ paribhūr asi, sa id deveṣu gacchati.
Meaning: "O Agni, the sacrifice and the ritual that you encompass on every side, that indeed reaches the gods."
Agni is portrayed as the all-encompassing carrier of rites—the bridge ensuring offerings reach the divine realm.
Verse 5
अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः ।
देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥
देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥
Agnir hotā kavikratuḥ satyaś citraśravastamaḥ, devo devebhir ā gamat.
Meaning: "Agni, the priest with wise intelligence, truthful and most glorious in fame, may the god come with the other gods."
This verse praises Agni's wisdom and truth; the fire is asked to come together with other gods to accept the sacrificial offering.
